CNG Association chief says influential politicians are 'gas thieves'
KARACHI: Responding to petroleum minister, Khwaja Asif's allegations, Chairman Supreme Council All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA), Ghiyas Paracha, Sunday said that influential politicians were in fact 'gas thieves' and not the CNG retailers, Media reported.
"Khwaja Asif's declaring all CNG sellers as 'thieves' is highly deplorable", said he in a statement issued here.
Paracha further added that the minister used unparliamentary language against CNG operators, which APCNGA condemned in the strongest of words.
"Petroleum minister's statement betrays his immature, irrational, and childish approach", said Paracha.
He lamented that it was really disappointing see those, who the nation had elected to solve country's problems especially energy crisis were, instead of doing their job, shifting the blame to other stakeholders.
No government would ever take action against crooked politicians but blame others for their faults which is hypocrisy, he added.
Contrary to the claims made, the CNG sector is using 256 mmbtu gas which is only 6.1 percent of the whole production, he said.
Paracha said that all the theft by influential CNG operators would be around 3-4 mmbtu while others sectors are stealing gas worth billion with the help of officials and politicians since long.
No action had ever been taken against them, he lamented.
"Stealing gas or electricity on a massive scale is beyond the imagination of a common man, it needs right connections, which is an open secret", he added.
Paracha also said that some elements had been misguiding masses about the CNG sector quoting false figures.
He hoped that APCNGA and government will soon resolve all the outstanding issues haunting CNG sector.
