NAUDERO: President Asif Ali Zardari said the government led by the Pakistan People’s Party faced a lot of hardships during its five-year term; but, it proved that democracy can run the country despite numerous failings, Media reported Thursday.

Addressing a ceremony held here in connection with the death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, he said people cannot be denuded of their right through anyone’s drama, claiming that his government set right the country’s direction, as he followed in Bhutto’s footsteps and strengthened the democracy, as a result.

“I did not let the political opposition turn into animosity,” he maintained noting there are myriads of forces which do not want democracy to exist in the country; but, despite the fact, the democratically elected government completed its five years in power.

Now, democracy will continue to be the fate of this land, President Zardari stressed.

Earlier, addressing the anniversary, the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said ZA Bhutto made Pakistan a nuclear power and Benazir Bhutto gifted the nation with nuclear technology; but, a Prime Minister of the PPP was disqualified from his office and arrest order was issued for the other.

Recounting the political successes of Bhutto dynasty, Bilawal appealed to the people to vote for the PPP again. Raising the slogans, he also made people to give pledge to help Faryal Talpur, Yousuf Raza Gilani and Raja Pervez Ashraf.
