Pakistans National Assembly Stood Dissolved
ISLAMABAD: In what is seen as a historic development in Pakistan's history, the country's National Assembly stood dissolved on completion of its five-year term under Article-52 of the Constitution, Media reported Saturday.
A notification to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
According to the notification, under Article-52 of the Constitution the National Assembly, after completing its five-year term, would stand dissolved at 12:00 midnight Saturday.
It may be noted here that the deadlock persists over dissolution of all provincial assemblies on the same day. Earlier in the day, a meeting between the four chief ministers and Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf failed to reach a consensus on the issue.
