IPOH, Malaysia: India came from a goal down to defeat Pakistan 3-1 to register their first win in a match of 22nd edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh.
The Indian side showed plenty of composure to avenge the Indian defeat at the AHF Champions Trophy in Doha last December. More importantly it kept the Indian hopes alive for a podium finish at the Azlan Shah Cup.
Pakistan scored the opening goal of the match, but within a few minutes India hit the equalizer.
The Indians kept the pressure on Pakistan and scored two more goals to win the match by 3-1.
Pakistan was awarded eight penalty corners in the match, but the Green Shirts failed to convert them to goals.
In other fixtures today‚ South Korea will meet New Zealand while Malaysia will play against Australia.
India could take heart from the fact that both their previous ties were close encounters.
Pakistan opened their campaign with a 3-4 win against New Zealand before being crushed 0-6 by Australia last night
