National Assembly Members Condemn Badami Bagh Incident:
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Monday suspending the agenda started discussion over the prevailing law and order situation in the country with particular reference to the Badami Bagh incident.
Initiating the debate, Asiya Nasir strongly condemned the incident and said that the Punjab government has failed to protect the monitories in the province. She said the minorities demand protection because they are also the responsible citizens of the country.
Khawaja Sohail Mansoor said that the government must ascertain the reasons behind the violence in Punjab and other provinces. He said the government must utilize maximum resources to restore law and order in the country.
Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that Punjab government while accepting the responsibility has taken stern action against those involved in the incident and 150 people have been arrested and trial will be conducted against them.
He said that five hundred thousand rupees compensation has been paid to each of the affectees and the construction of the house has also been started. He said strict measures are also being taken to stop such incidents in future.
Ramesh Lal said that effective measures must be taken by the federal and provincial governments to safeguard the minorities living different parts of the country.
Abdul Qadir Baloch said that it was an incident of intolerance and terrorism. He said we should not indulge in the blame game rather join hands to plan national strategy to defeat the menace of terrorism and extremism.
Akram Masih Gill said that the Constitution grants equal rights to the minorities, therefore, it is the prime responsibility of the government to protect their life and property.
He said the Parliament should also take steps for effective legislation in this regard. He demanded that the next Friday must be observed as National Harmony Day during which the scholars belonging to all faiths promote and preach tolerance and brotherhood.
Bushra Gohar described it as an incident of extremism and terrorism and demanded that the culprits involved in this crime must be brought to justice.
Manwer Lal said that the government has failed to provide protection to the minorities.
