Baluchistan Under Fire, Extra Measurement Should Be Taken:Chief Justice Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday asserted that Baluchistan has become a hub of illegal activities, and there can no longer be any compromise on its law and order situation.
This was stated by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as he addressed senior officials while heading a three member bench on Baluchistan security.
“The situation of the province is not normal and there must be extraordinary measures to control it,” he said.
The chief justice further observed how the province has now become a haven for criminal elements and sectarianism, even though there was no sectarianism in the province just a few years ago.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry blamed the non-implementation of Anti-Terror Act for failure to achieve the desired results. He was speaking at a meeting, held to review terrorism-related cases.

The meeting was attended by senior judges of the Supreme Court and high courts. IGPs of all four provinces, home secretaries and prosecutor generals also attended the meeting.
Addressing the participants, Justice Chaudry said the terror accused were being acquitted due to lack of concrete evidence, poor investigation and weak prosecution.

He said even witnesses are not given protection. In sectarian cases, witnesses hesitate to come to courts to testify against the people accused of terrorism. Nobody could be given sentence without the concrete evidence.
He added that large number of terror suspects were released by ant-terrorism courts due to poor investigation and weak prosecution.
